Reducing the risk of subsidence damage
As we approach the start of meteorological summer on 1st June, millions will head into their gardens this Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
According to the Association of British Insurers, there has been over 275,000 subsidence claims reported in the UK over the last 10 years. Of the valid claims, over 60% have been caused by shrinkage of clay soils below foundations due to the excessive water demands of nearby vegetation.
If you live in an area of clays soils, help reduce the risk of subsidence by regularly maintaining the size of trees and shrubs to reflect their distance from your property, with any new planting located a safe distance from your property to avoid future problems.
